About the Craft::Mirzapur and Bhadohi are the Carpet and Dhurrie weavers belt in Uttar Pradesh. During the Mughal era? Iranis and Pharsis had come to the region and made Auraiya their base. Since then the region has been famous for its carpet manufacturing and kilim dhurries with 70% of the population in Mirzapur and Bhadohi depending on this tradition for livelihood.
About the Artist:: Ashfaque Ahmed Ansari is a master craftsman from Mirzapur who has been carrying forward the tradition of his forefathers since the last 25 years. With 20% cotton (taana) and 80% woollen (baana), dhurries are made on two and four peddle looms in bright geometric and floral patterns.
