About the Craft: One of the oldest, finest and most popular weaves of India is Banarsi. The banarsi weavers produce one of the finest sarees, dupattas and fabrics in jamawar, brocade, kinkhab, meenakari and jamdani using silk, zari and cotton yarns. The motifs in each of these weaves draw inspiration from Muslim and Budhhist cultures and influences including floral and geometric patterns. In India, these silks are often worn on occasions, festivals and ceremonies.
b>About the Artisan::Savera handloom is established by Maqbool Alam. Being born in a weaving family he was involved in weaving from a very young age.
He is practicing traditional banarasi weaving techniques for 25 yr and specializes in kadwa jangla
