About the Craft : Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh is known for being the hub of handloom weaving since the 5th century. The delicate Maheshwari fabric is woven with silk and cotton yarns, giving it a soft texture and making it a perfect summer textile. The motifs are inspired by the intricacies engraved on the Maheshwar fort and temples. The sari comes with a reversible border and the unique five stripes on the pallu or anchal. About the Artisan: Rehbar Handloom from Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh is run by two brothers- Gulrez Ansari and Nasir Ansari. For the past 60 years, they have been practising centuries-old handloom masterpiece Maheshwari weaving that has been passed down through the generations, with each member of the family working to sustain the craft. Today, they manage 50 looms with over 60 weavers to produce saree, stoles, suit sets, and running fabric in silk and cotton.
