Description
About the Artisan: Pattachitra is a traditional painting style done on wooden, metal, tussar or cotton fabric using four main colours blue, white, red and yellow. These colours are obtained by crushing locally available stones. The usual compositions depict religious subjects such as those of divine figures like Krishna, Vishnu, Ganesh etc. The craftsmanship of Pattachitra paintings is extremely detailed with mesmerizing finesse.
About the Craft: Apendra Swain hails from the village of Raghurajpur, Odhisa. His family has been practicing Pattachitra paintings for generations. He is one artist who is trying to find a new path for this traditional art form and works on modern artefacts like kettles, bottles and experiments with changing the art form like incorporating calligraphy within pattachitra art.
