About the Craft and Artisan: The Forum for Rural Weavers is a non-profit social enterprise that works with local artisan groups of dhurrie weavers in Madhya Pradesh. These skilled weavers belong to the Sidhi (adivasi kol or ansari) communities and worked in the looms of other merchants to earn a living through wages. Popularly known as Kalavilasa Punja Dhurries, these contemporary and exquisite flat-weave rugs are designed and produced by the group of weavers belonging to the Forum. While giving them the freedom to work independently, the forum has also helped the weavers to advance their skills to work with more finesse, reproduce the designs accurately, without compromising on the construction quality. Each rug is handcrafted with precision on a traditional wooden loom using weaving techniques which have been passed on through generations.
