About the Craft and Artisan :: The recipient of a State Award (1998), National Award (2008) and Shilpa Guru Award (2009), Mohammad Ayyub is a nationally celebrated wood carver and calligrapher. In a rapidly industrialising sector, his craft of making wooden blocks used in block printing was already suffering challenges when demonetization hit. With the recent downturn of the economy as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Mohammad Ayyub couldn’t cope. As a result, his son Mohammad Tahir, who is an electronics and communications engineer by education, decided to take up the traditional family craft and support his aged parents.
