About the Craft and Artisan: The recipient of a State Award (1998), National Award (2008), and Shilpa Guru Award (2009), Mohammad Ayyub is a nationally celebrated woodcarver and calligrapher. In a rapidly industrializing sector, his craft of making wooden blocks used in block printing was already suffering challenges when demonetization hit. With the recent downturn of the economy as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Mohammad Ayyub couldn’t cope. As a result, his son Mohammad Tahir, who is an electronics and communications engineer by education, decided to take up the traditional family craft and support his aged parents.
