About the craft: Bhujodi in Kutchh, is the textile hub of Gujarat. Artisans of this region weave their traditions in every product woven on their looms. Originally known to be drawing their legacy from the Rabari tribe of Rajasthan, who migrated to Kutchh 500 years ago? these weavers have a simple yet distinct weaving style. Using geometric patterns and even mirrors, the patterns are aesthetically arranged in rich and natural colours. A variety of shawls, stoles, blankets and traditional wear are made in cotton, wool and kaala cotton. About the Artisan:Vankar has been continuing the traditional practice of bhujodi weaving passed on to him from his forefathers. His work has been creating livelihood opportunities for 15 other families of weavers who work with him. He has been reaching markets for several years with his colourful and bright creations through exhibitions such as Dastkar?s bazaars. This is the first time Vankar has taken a step towards online sales with Dastkar?s online store.
