About the Craft : Virsa women craft is a company recently developed for and by approximately 200 women artisans of Punjab representing 12 villages of two districts. These group of artisans have been supported by a group of designers to rejuvenate six crafts namely punja durries, azarband weaving, charpai weaving, pankhi making, embroidery and crochet. The designers have done scoping, skill enhancement, new design development keeping skill levels and market in mind, thus contemporizing these traditional crafts into marketable products. Women artisans from different villages came together forming village level producer groups followed by a central company. The groups were supported by Dastkar for marketing of their products and providing guidance for product development.
