Description
About the Craft and Artisan : Zahida Amin set up a women’s livelihood programme in the insurgency affected villages in Baramulla, Kashmir and now provides employment to over 60 women in 4 villages in one of the most troubled areas of the valley. Violence, bandhs, curfews and opposition from conservative males in the community have not stopped them. The NAIE KIRAN group is now self-sustaining. The rural women and girls travel to bazaars and exhibitions all over India selling their products. They do ari, Papier mache and sozni embroidery on fabrics like chanderi, maheshwari, tussar etc and make beautifully embroidered sarees, stoles, dupattas, phirans and kurtas.
