About the Artisan:Maa Shree Bagh Print is a Gramin Mahila Collective based out of Dhar, Bagh. They have been working since 2012 to develop the traditional technique of Bagh Printing with natural alum, iron and indigo, harad, dhawadi flowers, and tamarind seed powder. These ingredients are mixed and used to dye the cloth with a tedious process of oxidization, boiling the cloth in aliharin poweder and flowing water washing.
About the Craft: Bagh Printing is a traditional wood block printing that feature beautiful ethnic motifs and patterns for printing. Bagh print traditionally involves the use of red, maroon and black vegetable dyes on a white base. However, in recent times, Bagh Printing has been experimented with newer colour combinations, where blue and browns are featuring in the earthier tones.
